Small Home, Big Heart — Owner-Run Care in Sunderland
The Croft is an independent, owner-managed residential care home in Sunderland, offering 30 en-suite bedrooms across two floors. Run full-time by Kathryn alongside her long-standing team — many with over 10 years' service — The Croft provides the kind of personal, consistent care that only a small home can. We're proud of our approachable, open-door culture where families are always welcome and encouraged to stay involved in their loved one's care.
We believe your mum or dad deserves to be treated as an individual, not a number. Our person-centred approach means understanding their wants and wishes, encouraging independence, and supporting them through changing needs. For residents living with dementia, our fully trained team takes a compassionate approach — we enter their world rather than trying to correct it, reducing anxiety and promoting wellbeing. We work closely with local community groups to keep residents connected and engaged.

Every person who comes through our doors is welcomed as family. Here's how we support your loved one.

Compassionate end-of-life care that prioritises comfort, dignity, and support for the whole family.
Kathryn and her team are absolutely wonderful. Mum has been at The Croft for two years now and she's genuinely happy. The staff have been there for years — they know her inside and out. It feels like an extension of our family.
When Dad was diagnosed with dementia, we were devastated. But the team at The Croft have been incredible — they understand his world and never correct him, just gently guide him. He's calmer and more content than we ever expected.
What struck us most was Kathryn's open-door policy. Nothing is ever too much trouble and we always feel welcome. The Croft is small enough that everyone knows everyone — that makes all the difference.
We'd love to welcome you for a cup of tea and a look around. No pressure — just a chat.
